I've Seen Some Scary
Searches Recently About Alchohol Withdrawal and the DTs.
Because I work in web
marketing, I do review the traffic to the SimplyQuitDrinking.com
web site. I was very scared one morning recently to find people
typing in search terms "alcohol withdrawal can't
breathe" and "if I quit drinking
will I quit shaking". I feel for these people
tremeandously and I want to help at this critical time. This
shocked me when I realized that people were already finding
my website althoug it's only been up a few weeks. I had to do
something right away to help. I added this article, as well
as on the homepage the bold writing about the symptoms and to
get to a doctor.
What to do if you're shaking:
see a doctor right away.
Why are you shaking? DTs. Here
is an excellent article
about the difference between DTs, Delirius Tremens and "simple"
alcohol withdrawal. Basically, you can have "simple"
withdrawal hours after you've gone out drinking, or if you've
cut back recently. That type of withdrawal is like having the
flu, where your temperature rizes, your heart beat elevates,
you sweat a lot, and probably vomit.
However DTs, "delirium tremens"
if fatal. The person is confused and disoriented, aside from
being physically sick. They are delirius. I had reached this
point once. When, in July 2006, my husband said I was out of
my mind. I was sitting on the floor talking about getting out
of a car. I also called myself and said I didn't know where
I was.
Because of how serious alcohol
withdrawal can be, you should always get medical help. The person
needs to be evaluated and detoxified. In detox they will give
you medication to reduce the risk (benzodiazepenes).
Please don't take any chances.
Someone's life may be at stake. In my case, I did suffer a sezuire
from withdrawal earlier, and thankfully at least a year later,
when I hit the DTs, my husband had me taken to the hospital
and then detoxification.
I'm lucky to be alive having
come so near death more than once. Let's help others out of
that situation. Take action.
